Telematic applications
The field of intelligent traffic control systems (telematics) represents an important part of the traffic control issues. The objective of telematics is to make the traffic safer, more effective, with smaller congestions on roads and of less economic environmental load.
In the field of telematics, ELTODO provides following services:
- Solutions aimed at increasing the road traffic capacity and smooth flow of traffic
- Traffic studies and research
- Modelling traffic solutions changes
- Solutions of navigation information systems
- Stationary traffic solutions
- Elaboration of project documentation and realization
The area of intelligent traffic control systems (also known as telematics = telecommunications and informatics) integrates in itself information and telecommunication technologies with traffic control engineering. The telematics aims at increasing transport capacity, safety and psychological comfort of passengers. ELTODO has gained a lot of experience in this particular field in recent years.
Main Objectives of Telematics
Higher transport capacity
- By using information and telecommunication technologies for dynamic traffic control
Higher safety level
- By means of variable traffic signs, it is possible to reduce the speed of vehicles according to the weather conditions, ice, fog, density of traffic, or dangerous places on the roads
- By means of information portals, it is possible to inform drivers about acute changes in the traffic situation in front of them
- By means of traffic detectors deployment, it is possible to monitor and record rapid changes of the traffic flow that may indicate a road accident. The traffic control centre can thus immediately respond and activate emergency services, police and others
Contribution to the environment
- By reducing the number of stopping or slowly driving vehicles in queues
- By preferring UMT vehicles at light-controlled intersections
- By facilitating the UMT planning for passengers by means of an itinerary offering the optimum type of transport and travel time to particular destinations in real time
Reduction of traffic congestions
- By informing drivers about locations and lengths of queues
- By navigating drivers to alternative routes according to the actual traffic situation; drivers are navigated to optimal routes in order to avoid critical spots such as construction works, road accidents, congestions and others
- By using parking navigation systems; in the case of traffic problems alternative transport is offered to the driver (UMT), including information about fares and timetable
- By implementing fees (“toll”) in city centres
Raising effectiveness of goods transport
- By monitoring and optimizing truck routes.
- By equipping trucks with electronic passport identifying the type of transported goods and by permanent monitoring of vehicles with dangerous load.
- By using a column-driving system, when the distance between vehicles is minimised depending upon external conditions, so that the vehicles can create so called trains moving at optimal speed and thus utilising the road capacity at maximum way.
